Early in my career I made the transition from a classically trained painter and illustrator to digital designer. I worked in electronic pre-press, website design, 2D and 3D animation and broadcast video. I also had the opportunity to write and teach digital design courses at Georgetown University, and lecture at the Corcoran School of Art.
In 2015 I began painting again after a ten-year hiatus. I thought I would get back to basics using one of the first mediums I used as a child – crayons. Wood was the obvious choice for crayons because it is firm and tougher than paper. Crayon certainly has its limitations, so colored pencil and paint soon reappeared in my artwork.
I also explore non-traditional techniques like burning and wood stain. Lately I have made more abstract and thoughtful works that bring me back to the tactile essence of painting.
Most inspiration comes from nature and being out in it, where water, sky and earth converge.
